A boot for the Ages.

Last year, in my studio, a student of mine wanted to make a cowboy boot, and I thought I would make one as well. I modelled this boot off of my father’s old broken-down boot. His ‘shitkickers’ are well worn, though he is not at all a cowboy. He is an enthusiastic southern Albertan who wears the boots with pride. He was a commercial steel salesman and did a lot of client wining and dining during the stampede. Though the colouring is different, this boot is a showcase in my interior design and theatre props days, where a model is reconstructed in another form as close as possible to the original. Creative thought is not high, but technical skill and problem-solving are.

This boot was partially thrown and partially hand-built using a black clay. The final look has white underglaze inset in the stitching as well as white glaze inside.

This boot was entered in the Alberta Pottery Association’s annual Stien Show in 2025 as Das Boot Pardner. Due to a crack in the bottom it's not a functional stein, so it was a show piece only and not for sale.

In 2026 this boot was featured in the show “Vibrant Community” at the Fig Gallery in Okotoks Ab.
