Our current studio is cozy, the classes are small, and you get a relaxing, creative space to explore the wonderful material of clay.
Classes
This class is 6 weeks to get an introduction to clay. You will learn hand-building techniques and the wheel, as well as refine and glaze your pieces. This class is good for full beginners and as a refresher. We are open to your projects you want to build and also have many projects to offer.
Join us for 6 weeks to gain confidence on the wheel. Good for those who can center and raise a cylinder
We will focus on more controlled throwing on the wheel. You will learn how to throw off the hump, a double wall vessel, add lids to your pieces in 3 different ways, and throw pots in multiple sections and attach. This class is open to your ideas as well. If there is something specific you want to focus on, we can work it in!
This class is good for beginners and those looking to improve with using the pottery wheel. You will have time and guidance to practice those skills to gain confidence. In the final week of this class, your pieces will be fired, and you will glaze. Classes are 2 hours.
If you have taken a class before and want to continue on (but don't yet feel confident for intermediate throwing), then this is the class for you. This class is flexible wheel and handbuilding time with lots of guidance. In the first class, we will check in on your skill level and what you want to work on and go from there. This class includes clay, glaze and firing. What you make is up to you!
Workshops
One or two day sessions
This is a 2 day workshop where you will throw a teapot in 3 parts; the body, spout, and lid. On day two your piece will be drier and you will trim and construct your teapot. You may also add detail and decor. Come back on March 29th to glaze. For this workshop, you should be able to reliably center and pull up a cylinder. This workshop includes instruction, clay, glaze, and firing. Your pieces will be ready 1-2 weeks after glaze day.
Looking to get to those bigger pots you have always dreamed of? This class will focus on the skills you need as you go up in weight on the wheel. We will be throwing from. 5-15 lbs, depending on your comfort level. This two-day workshop teaches wedging, centering, and pulling up larger clay. You will throw single pieces and 2-part pieces, as well as adding height throwing coils. Firing is included, but glazing is a separate charge.
This hand-building workshop teaches the slow and mindful method of coil building to make larger pots and bowls. You will have 2 afternoons to build up and refine your larger piece. Learn how to build a stencil for a larger pot and support your piece as it gets larger. You can make something up to 15" wide and 16" tall (the largest our kiln will allow). 4 weeks later, you will come back to glaze your pieces. This workshop is open to beginners.
